THE CONTEXT
2020: COVID broke the education model overnight.
Facing a wartime crisis with zero lead time, BYJU'S mobilised a core team to bridge the gap. Corporate tools weren't built for students. We filled the void by building a bespoke digital infrastructure from scratch, tailored specifically for the front lines of education.

BYJU’S was built on self-paced mastery. 2020 demanded a pivot to live, immersive education. We rose to the challenge, scaling a new model within the larger ecosystem at record speed.

The Approach:
Customer backward thinking
The objective was to increase attendance and average watch time (lead metrics) to improve learning outcomes and customer satisfaction (lag metrics), measured through referrals.

While the customer aims for high exam scores and the business seeks retention and growth, low student engagement remained a barrier. To bridge this gap, we reimagined our solution through the lens of 'PLAY', which became our core design outcome we watched out for.

How they translated into product features
Social Interaction: Icebreakers, casual games, and non-curricular activities to foster peer connections.
Recognition: Rewards and badges to encourage positive behaviours through playful gamification.
Relationships: Voluntary peer connections beyond the classroom to build stronger bonds and improve learning outcomes.
Learning: Tools like interactive whiteboards, digital study groups, and productivity features to support deeper learning.
Competence: Support for skill development, peer mentoring, feedback loops, and digital well-being to build confidence and self-awareness.
Ease of Use: An intuitive, engaging interface designed to focus users(children) on their goals and make learning time-efficient.
